Art for Eternity Gallery Facilitates the Voluntary Return of Ancient Cypriot Masterpieces to Their Homeland
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY — Art for Eternity Gallery proudly announces the voluntary repatriation of two significant Cypriot antiquities—a Cypro-Archaic I (600 BC) quadriga chariot sculpture and a Cypro-Geometric/Archaic (750 BC) flask—continuing its commitment to ethical stewardship and international collaboration in safeguarding world heritage.
The artifacts were formally handed over during a ceremony at the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington, D.C., attended by representatives from the FBI International Operations Division, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. Ambassador Evangelos Savva of Cyprus publicly expressed gratitude to the gallery’s owner Howard Nowes and director Dara Mayers for their decisive role in this voluntary return, praising the gesture as an act of goodwill that strongly supports the decades-long effort to recover Cyprus’ cultural treasures.cyprus-mail+2
“Our gallery has always believed that the preservation of cultural heritage is a shared global responsibility,” said Howard Nowes, Owner and Director. “By returning these precious objects to Cyprus, we reaffirm our dedication to the highest principles of transparency, cooperation, and respect for the origin of every artifact entrusted to our care.”
This repatriation was made possible under the ongoing bilateral agreement between Cyprus and the United States, which helps prevent the illicit trafficking of antiquities and supports lawful, ethical art stewardship. U.S. and Cypriot officials alike highlighted the transfer as further evidence of the gallery’s leadership and willingness to collaborate with government and law enforcement to address issues of provenance and rightful ownership.knews.kathimerini+1
Both the quadriga and flask, now en route to their homeland, serve as a renewed testament to the importance of honoring the past while protecting the legacy of world cultures for future generations.
