Hollow-molded red earthenware with remains of white pigment, modeled as a horned, seated guardian with fierce expression, on an integral rocky base.

His awesome physical attributes, including glaring eyes and brawny muscles, command authority and respect. Two groveling and struggling ghosts under his feet serve as foil to his determination, boldness, and integrity.

Size: 12" H x 4-1/2" W.

Provenance: Ex Smith Collection, Artemis Gallery, 2014 acquired by Dr. Henry Cherrick, a professor and dean at UCLA School of dentistry who pioneered government programs promoting dental care in HIV/AIDs patients. He was an avid collector of fine art and antiquities and died at the age of 84 in 2023.
