Circa 1st to 2nd Century AD.

Graceful solid‑cast bronze statuette of Aphrodite (Venus) shown nude, standing with her weight on the left leg and the right leg slightly advanced, creating a gentle contrapposto. Her right arm is lost at the elbow, while the left is bent at the elbow and raised in a characteristic Anadyomene gesture, as if wringing water from her hair or adjusting it after her sea‑born emergence. The wavy hair is swept back from the forehead and arranged atop the head in an elaborate bow‑knot coiffure with long tresses falling down the back, and the recessed eyes were originally inlaid.

The figure retains an attractive green patina with areas of light encrustation and surface rub; details of the face, hair, and feet remain well preserved despite the loss of the right forearm and minor age‑related wear. Statuettes of this type, derived from the celebrated Aphrodite Anadyomene prototype, were popular domestic and cult images across the Roman world in the early Imperial period.

Height: 4 3/4 in (12 cm), excluding custom mount.

Condition: Fragmentary as preserved, with right forearm missing and minor chips and abrasions; small casting flaws and surface pitting; attractive stable green patina with some brown and earthen deposits; mounted on a modern custom base.

Provenance: Ex Collection Mr. N.C., acquired before 2012 in Germany.
