Colombia SA, Circa 1000 to 1300 AD.

A sizable gold disc with human face displaying coiffure and ear ornaments, bulge in cheek, within a circular framework. Pierced for suspension.
Size: 3 ¾ inches diameter + a custom  mount.  Weight: 23.5 gms.
XRF elemental analysis shows a characteristic pre-Columbian gold alloy composition with:
Gold (Au): 71.45%
Silver (Ag): 17.00%
Copper (Cu): 11.36%
Iron (Fe): 0.20%
This composition is consistent with a pre-Columbian alloy of gold, silver, and copper. The presence of these elements in these proportions is typical of pre-Columbian metallurgy.  The object is classified as 17.1K gold, which aligns with the natural alloy compositions found in pre-Columbian artifacts. The analysis shows no modern plating or contemporary materials, supporting its authenticity.
The presence of copper and silver in these proportions suggests this piece was likely manufactured using traditional pre-Columbian metallurgical techniques, where artisans deliberately manipulated these components to achieve specific surface colors and visual effects.
Provenance: Jerrie Cobb Foundation.
Published Capturing The Sun, Master Craftsmen of Ancient Mesoamerica, gallery exhibition October 2017, no 27.
