Ptolemaic Period,  Ca 305 to 282 BC

A delicate lidded faience offering goblet in light blue composition with a deeper blue dedication inscription which reads: “Eternal life (for) the Son of Re, the Master of Appearances, Ptolemy, beloved of Sokar Osiris”.

Size 2 inches (5.3 cm) H.  Intact with surface wear..  

Ptolemy Soter is the son of Arsinoe and of Lagos, who gave his name to the dynasty of the Lagids. On the death of Alexander the Great, he is Satrap of Egypt (323) and takes the title of king in 305/4. He is therefore the first Hellenistic king in Egypt. His second wife, Berenice I, bore him two children: Arsinoe II in 308 and Ptolemy II in 285/4. He died in 283/2. Constructions or restorations at Naukratis, Terenuthis, Hermopolis, Coptos are attributed to him. And he exalted the cult of Serapis under his reign (according to Manetho).
