El Salvador or Honduras,  Ca. 600 to 900 AD

A small redware pottery vessel of bulbous form with a flaring neck and rounded base. One side is decorated with a modeled anthropomorphic face mask in relief, displaying prominent appliqué eyes, a projecting nose, and defined lips. Additional incised and applied elements around the midsection likely represent symbolic facial markings.

Vessels of this type were often used as containers for pigments, resins, or ritual offerings.
