N Coast Peru Ca. 1000 - 1250 A.D. Carved wood mummy bundle plank mask, having a separately carved large angular nose . Large recessed diamond shape eyes painted white with black pupils, and a small smiling mouth. Wearing a human hair stepped cut wig, secured with an interwoven string tie. Painted red face, with an excellent ancient surface patina with some remaining traces of ancient textile incorporated into the painted surface. Two sets of suspension holes on the edges. Size: 9”H. x 8-3/4”W.  Intact, excellent condition. A very nice example.  Provenance: Ex. Jack Bregman collection, NYC. Acquired prior to 1969 while in the Peace Corps. By descent to current owner. Collection # 174.
