Eastern Mediterranean, ca. 1st–3rd Century CE

A beautifully mold-blown Roman flask in rich translucent amber glass, formed in the classic "pilgrim flask" construction: a flattened disc-shaped (lentoid) body with rounded base, rising to an extended cylindrical neck and an everted, folded disc rim. A raised medallion/boss at the center of each face is characteristic of the two-part mold technique used to produce these elegant flasks, which were employed for perfumed oils, unguents, and precious liquids. The amber tonality — achieved by iron or trace lead additions to the batch — is particularly desirable among ancient glass collectors.

Dimensions: 2¾ in. H (approx. 7 cm), plus custom display base.
Condition: Intact, excellent condition; lovely surface with light iridescence and stable deposits.

Provenance Estate of Daryl G. Kulok, a New York private collector, acquired in the 2000s. The Kulok collection is recognized in the New York ancient-art community for its holdings of Greek, Roman, and Near Eastern glass and small antiquities, assembled over decades with an emphasis on intact and well-patinated vessels; objects from the collection have surfaced through reputable secondary-market channels with established early-2000s collection history, predating the most recent round of cultural-property restrictions.

All pieces are unconditionally guaranteed authentic and as described in perpetuity and have been legally acquired and imported in full accordance with U.S. and applicable foreign regulations regarding the movement and sale of antiquities.

A signed guarantee of authenticity with a description and photograph of the item(s) accompanies this object.
