Eastern Mediterranean, ca. 2nd–4th Century CE

A free-blown translucent pale sea-green glass bowl of broad, shallow form, with a gently incurved tubular-folded rim, a flaring convex side, and a raised central "omphalos" set within a tubular tooled foot-ring on the underside. The vessel is a classic Roman domestic service form  used as a fruit, food, or offering dish  paralleled in published collections including the Allaire Collection and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and related to Isings Form 116/118 shallow bowls of the middle-to-later Imperial period. The glass retains a lovely surface of silvery-golden iridescent weathering and stable earthen deposits across the interior and exterior, the natural result of long burial.

Dimensions: H. 1-5/8 in. (4.1 cm); Diam. 5-7/8 in. (14.9 cm)
Condition: Intact, excellent condition; nice iridescent surface with stable weathering and mineral deposits.
