Late Period XXVIth Dynasty, Ca. 646 to 525 BC.
This solid-cast leaded bronze standing figure depicts Osiris, Lord of the Underworld and King of the Dead, in his classic mummiform pose with arms crossed over the chest, hands emerging from his tightly-wrapped shroud to grasp the crook (heka) and flail (nekhakha)—the twin implements of royal and divine authority. The god wears the elaborate atef crown, composed of the tall white hedjet miter of Upper Egypt flanked by two maat ostrich plumes set upon ram's horns, with a central uraeus serpent rearing at the brow as a protective frontispiece. His finely modeled face bears the traditional plaited false (Osirian) divine beard, symbol of his eternal kingship in the afterlife.
Size 9-1/8 inches (24.3cm) H. + custom wood mount.
