C irca 15th century AD  

The figure is draped in voluminous, flowing robes and wears a veil over her head, conveying a sense of solemnity and piety typical of religious depictions. Her hands are crossed gracefully over her chest, suggesting humility or prayer. The style of the drapery, with its deep folds and naturalistic flow, along with the gentle, serene facial expression, indicate a work that could be from the Gothic or early Renaissance and was intended for use in a church or private devotion.   The craftsmanship emphasizes delicacy in the hands and face and movement in the garments, hallmarks of religious wooden statuary from medieval or Renaissance Europe.

Dimensions: (Overall) H 14.5" (Sculpture) H 13.25" x W 5.5" x D 3.5" Condition: Loss to lower corner of original base. Loss to drapery in front. Worming (Inactive), other minor losses.
