Early Classic, Tzakol III, Circa 500 to 600 AD

There are two masterfully carved images of the head of god K (K'awiil) on the body of the vessel. Each displays the characteristic smoking flare in his forehead, extended upper snout and crossed bands motif. The heads are highly similar to K'awiil Hu'unal forms carved in jade. They have aspects of both God K and a fish like creature. One of the two heads has a bearded lower mandible. Along the upper rim a carved inscription resembling a sky band with KIN (day) and lunar symbols intermixed with several head glyphs. The original lid has a large globular handle which once functioned as a rattle. Each of the three ball-shaped, rattle feet are hollow, containing clay pellets, and are functional.
