West Coast, Mexico, Ca. 100 BC. to 200 AD.

A fine buff earthenware with red slip decorated effigy with incised and burnished surface.  This male figure wears a classic single horn on his forehead showing the patterned binding which holds it onto his head. He sits erect at attention and holds in his upraised right hand a small scepter or perhaps a weapon. A shell necklace is his only adornment. He has a determined and confident look on his face and likely represents a shaman in combat. An excellent example of the type. Beautiful root marked surface and manganese dioxide blooms overall.
