The tomb of Mentuemhat (TT34) in Thebes is one of the most impressive non-royal tombs of the Late Period, reflecting the prestige of its owner—a high priest of Amun, mayor of Thebes, and governor of Upper Egypt during the transition from the 25th to the 26th Dynasty. Mentuemhat wielded significant power, effectively ruling Upper Egypt and helping oversee the reconstruction of Thebes after Assyrian invasions. His tomb is exceptionally large and architecturally complex, featuring huge courtyards, subterranean corridors, as well as highly decorated chapels

The tomb of Mentuemhat (TT34) in Thebes was first noted and partially explored in the early 20th century, with Robert Mond excavating parts of it around 1903–1904. Subsequent clearance and research by Winlock of the Metropolitan Museum of Art took place in the 1920s, further exposing its monumental structure and extensive relief decoration.

Notable Museums with Mentuemhat Reliefs include: The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York); Brooklyn Museum (New York); de Young Museum (Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco); Yale University Art Gallery; Cleveland Museum of Art:; Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City).
