South Italy, 4th century B.C.

A red-figure pelike decorated on both sides with the profile head of a woman facing left, her hair looped over the forehead and gathered in a large bun at the back, bound in a kekryphalos and surmounted by a radiate stephane with tall white spikes, wearing pendant earrings and a beaded necklace. The field with added palmettes and small rosettes, a running wave band above, and large fan-shaped palmettes flanking the handles; reserved band at the foot.

Size 6-5/8 in (16.8 cm) Height.

Provenance: Collection of F. S., Germany, acquired before 1983.
