West Mexico (Michoacán/Guanajuato), Late Preclassic/Formative, ca. 550–100 BC

A hand-modeled solid earthenware figure of a standing nude female, the flattened wide head with slanted "coffee-bean" appliqué eyes, simple strand necklace, applied earspools, and a slender columnar body with short arms resting at the abdomen and tapering legs. The slit-eye ("H4") type with flat head and central hair part is the diagnostic Chupícuaro form, produced across the Guanajuato/Michoacán sphere.  

Height: 6¼ in. (15.8 cm) Displayed on a custom black stand and armature. Surface with earthen deposits consistent with age and burial. Intact clean example.

A votive/funerary offering — figures of this type were placed in burials and dedicatory deposits, their emphasis on the female form and body markings tied to Mesoamerican beliefs about fertility and animistic power. 

 Comparable examples are widely held (Met, NGV, Montréal Museum of Fine Arts) and appear at auction dated 300–100 BC. This one is stylistically classic Chupícuaro rather than the elongated shaft-tomb types of neighboring Colima/Nayarit
