Archaic Style, West Mexico, Late Preclassic, circa 300 B.C. to 100 B.C.

This toothy jaguar with two male figures conjoined upon its back with janiform heads, one facing forward, the other in reverse. Male sex is indicated on each figure, one with hands on the knees, the other figure with hands on belly.  Condition is very good.
Size: H 9.5 IN x L 14 IN;  H 24.13 CM x L 35.56 CM
Provenance: Ex-Sidney Newman Collection of Pre-Columbian Art, Beverly Hills, California. Co-author of The Shaft Tomb Figures of West Mexico, with Hasso von Winning, Southwest Museum, Los Angeles, 1974; then the Brisacher Family Collection of Pre-Columbian Art, Costa Mesa, California.
