A lovely red-brown pottery dog with perked ears, incised mouth with a stalk of corn, rear tail spout, head erect as if alert and with ears pointed. Overall strong mineral deposits

Size: 8-7/8 inches (22.5cm) Height x 14-1/8 inches (35.9cm) Length. Repaired.

This fine dog is a representation of the hairless dogs used in ancient Colima as pets, providers of warmth, and sources of sustenance. Dogs played an important role in the transportation of souls to the afterlife and in this rare case, he is ensured food with the corn in his mouth.
