Date: Circa 1200 BC

Oval shaped carved and glazed steatite cowrie form with deep green glazed; base depicting scrollwork designs, symbolic for the Pharaohs protection.  Pierced for suspension and mounted in a modern a silver loop. Size  5/16” long (16 mm)

Acquired from Philip Mitry’s granddaughter.  Philip Mitry was licensed to sell Egyptian antiquities in his bookstore in Cairo, Egypt, in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. His shop was directly across the street from the Shepheard’s Hotel, where many famous visitors stayed (the Hotel burned during the 1952 riots). Mitry, a recognized expert, was frequently visited by Egyptologists, historians, museum curators, and other authorities, and his Egyptian relics are in collections worldwide. In the 1950s, he legally brought his Egyptian antiquities to California. Most of the larger pieces were sold many years ago, but fortunately, much of his scarab collection remained

All pieces are unconditionally guaranteed authentic and as described in perpetuity and have been legally acquired and imported in full accordance with U.S. and applicable foreign regulations regarding the movement and sale of antiquities.

A signed guarantee of authenticity with a description and photograph of the item(s) accompanies this object.
