 Late Period, Circa 712 to 300 BC.

A well carved example of the human headed son of Horus, Imsety. The voluminous form with broad wig, large ears and fine facial features as is evident in the remains of the thin lips, mouth and nose; the face with eyes, and eyebrows highlighted in black painted cosmetic lines. This lid was once part of a canopic set designed to hold the internal organs of a member of the Ancient Egyptian's upper class. Imsety was one of the four sons of Horus, and his jar held the mummys liver and was in turn protected by the goddess Isis.
Size: 5-1/2 inches (14cm) Height;
Condition: Abrasion, wear, intact, light surface patina.
Provenance: Ex HW acq 1990s, by descent to DB, New Paltz NY.
