West Mexico, Protoclassic, circa 100 B.C. to A.D. 250

Large and impressive seated warrior wearing barrel chest armor and holding a long club with both hands. Wearing a segmented collar around his neck, fancy ear ornaments and wrapped head gear. strong and expressive facial features. Beautifully painted details and highlights in red-brown, white and black. Strong scattered areas of mineral deposits on the surface. A couple of restored chips to the rim of the barrel armor, otherwise an intact, excellent condition.

Size: 13-5/8 inches H. x 11-1/2 inches W.

Provenance: Ex. Leonard Kaplan collection, Laguna Beach, CA., acquired from Harry Franklin, 1962. Sold to the collection of Dr. Mac McLasky and Robert High from Kaplan in 1963. Sold to John Jordan, Laguna Beach, CA. in 2006; next sold to a Florida collector; then sold to the NY trade; then a NY collection.
