Roman Imperial period, Circa 1st to 4th century AD 

An attractive and intact Roman terra sigillata pottery vessel featuring a deep, wheel-thrown circular bowl with a slightly flared, reinforced rim and smooth, sloping cylindrical walls. The matching original lid features a central finial knob and is decorated across the top surface with prominent concentric wheel-turned ridges. The piece exhibits a characteristic warm orange-red fine clay body with faint remnants of its fine slip, along with light, authentic encrustations and surface deposits along the base and rim.

Dimensions: 7-1/4 inches Diameter × 4 inches High (18.4 cm x 10.2cm) when lidded. Condition: Excellent intact condition overall. Expected light surface wear, minor slip loss, and minor earthy deposits consistent with age and burial. 

Terra sigillata ("sealed earth" or "clay bearing relief/stamps") represents the premium tableware of the Roman world. Utility vessels complete with their original fitted lids are considerably scarcer on the market than open bowls or plates, making this a fine addition to any ancient art collection.
