Circa 18th Century AD

An expressive head of a saint, possibly Jesus himself or the Apostle Peter, with naturalistic flesh tone and brown hair and beard with double braids; his eyes inlaid with glass for a more realistic lifelike effect.

Size 17 inches H on marble block base. Good condition and with wear and losses to gesso surface and one small piece of white eyes.

Lovely devotional image from a festival or church.

Provenance: Dr. Jonathan R. Warner (1937-2019) Pelham NY, a widely recognized research scientist and professor of Molecular biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
