 Early Dynastic IIIa, ca. 2600–2500  BC

Beautifully rendered back to back recumbent human heads (not remaining) bulls. Carved from creamy colored gypsum alabaster; the beasts naturalistically rendered with legs folded under and thick rows of fleece depicted with fine snail curls. The beards and long hair remain of the heads.

Size 4-5/8 in W. x 1-3/8 in D. x 2-5/8 in H.

Condition: Heads heavily abraded, repair to center, excellent deposits to attest to authenticity, vessel atop gone, which once held cosmetics or unguents.
