Brownware cylinder vessel on raised tripod feet, decorated on either with a deeply incised chief or god rendered in profile with elaborate headdress, ear spool, speech scroll and a plumed serpent to the side.

This is a sacred vessel for the fermentation, consumption and storage of the luxury cacao drink. 

Size 5-3/4 inches H. x 5 inches Diam.  Intact with rim chip and minor rim infill, mineral deposits on surface.
Provenance: Private Collection, Virginia, acq from Malter Galleries, Encino, California, Auction XXXV June 7, 1987 lot 270 (with copy of catalog listing).
