A whimsical and expressive Pre-Columbian terracotta figure originates from northern Peru’s Piura Valley, dating to circa 400 – 100 BC, the solid hand-modeled orange-tan earthenware idol exemplifies the stark, abstract figural vocabulary typical of early northern coastal traditions bridging late Cupisnique and early Gallinazo or Salinar idioms. The broad, flattened head is framed by prominent tab-like lateral ears and defined by stylized slit eyes, punctate nostrils, and a narrow horizontal mouth slit that impart a solemn, totemic expression. Below, the arms are sculpted in low relief across the chest and abdomen with incised, splayed fingers folded inward. A pronounced phallus projects from the lower torso above abbreviated stump-like legs, an iconographic emphasis common in Vicús ritual imagery signifying male fertility, ancestral continuity, and agricultural regeneration. Displaying characteristic mineral inclusions, subtle pit-fire surface variations, and stable earthen burial encrustations, the piece is mounted on a custom-fitted black armature stand.

Size 3 in H+ custom mount.
