Egypt, Late Period, ca. 715–500 BCE

A finely molded turquoise faience amulet in the form of the Udjat (Eye of Horus), the stylized right eye with extended cosmetic line and defined brow. The pupil, brow, and tear line are picked out in a darker pigment, enhancing the expressive detail. Back is flat/unstyled (adjust if it is convex or ribbed), with an integral suspension loop for stringing.

The Udjat – literally “the sound/whole one” – symbolized healing, wholeness, and divine protection. Such amulets were worn in life and sewn into mummy wrappings to safeguard the wearer in this world and the next.

A symbol for the protective eye of Horus, well modeled  and a very close parallel example to the one on the cover of the Carol Andrews book on Amulets of Ancient Egypt.
