Third Intermediate to Late Period, Dynasty 25–30, circa 712–332 BC.

Solid-cast leaded bronze, depicting Osiris, Lord of the Underworld, King of the Dead, and god of resurrection and regeneration standing frontally in the canonical mummiform pose, arms crossed on the chest and emerging from the close-fitting mummy-wrappings, the hands holding the royal heka crook and nekhakha flail. The face with finely modeled cosmetic-lined almond eyes (once inlaid, now showing the prepared cavities with characteristic red cuprite haloes), aquiline nose, gentle archaic smile, and long ceremonial plaited false beard. The head is surmounted by the atef crown: the tall conical White Crown of Upper Egypt (hedjet) flanked by two tall ostrich plumes, fronted by a rearing uraeus cobra, and topped by a central sun disc. Raised on an integral narrow tang (now secured into a custom wooden display mount). The surface carries a rich variegated blue-green malachite and azurite patina over a stable red-brown cuprite ground, with localized crystalline accretions consistent with long burial. Intact, excellent condition. Inked collection inventory number "E.S. 1026." on the reverse of the lower legs.

Size: 7⅝ in. (19.5 cm) H. plus custom mount.

Provenance: Private German collection of E.S., acquired in 1971 from Galerie Zandiani, Hamburg
