Second Intermediate Period (Dynasty 15–17, ca. 1650–1550 BCE). Naturalistically modeled, the beetle features a notched clypeus, simple incised sutures separating the pronotum from the elytra, and legs with striated ribbing along the profile. The flat reverse is expertly incised with an apotropaic cryptogram characteristic of Hyksos era design (Tufnell Class 3B/9), displaying a vertical central emblem, likely a stylized ankh or pillar, flanked by symmetrically opposed uraei (protective cobras) at the top and Lower Egyptian crowns or floral sceptres along the flanks, all supported on a low nb basket ground line symbolizing total protection and divine authority. Size 14 mm L. Pierced longitudinally for suspension, the scarab retains traces of its original alkaline glaze within the protected crevices, with the calcification and mineral deposits or else well-preserved. Compare, Petrie’s Historical Scarabs as well for the type. Provenance: Ex Satna Fe NM collector, Acquired in The USA Market.
