Caspian Sea Area, circa 1000 BC,

The finial depicts the famed Master of the Animals motif, of twin confronted facing felines, the signature image of Luristan bronze work.
Size 3-3/4 in H. + custom mount.
Nice deep dark oxidation patina. The bronzes of Luristan, in the Zagros Mountains of western Iran, are among the most distinctive and sought-after metalwork of the ancient Near East, cast by semi-nomadic peoples who left no written record, so these powerful animal and guardian forms are the voice of a vanished culture. Provenance: private New York City collection, acquired in the US market.

Every object is guaranteed authentic and as described, and has been legally acquired and imported in accordance with U.S. and applicable foreign regulations on the movement and sale of antiquities. A signed certificate of authenticity with a description and photograph accompanies this object. Any restoration is described on the invoice.
