Cultures/Period: Pre-Columbian Calima/Colombian gold; Pre-Columbian Andean (Moche-type) turquoise/blue stone; ca. 400–1000 AD.
A wonderful and very wearable pre-Columbian necklace combining lustrous gold beadwork with ancient blue stone. The balanced composition features graduated gold spheres, two stylized gold figural elements, and a central gold bird/figural pendant grouping, interspersed with ancient polished and pierced Andean turquoise (blue stone) beads.

The gold elements are in the tradition of Calima/Colombian goldwork, celebrated across the ancient Americas for its warm color and sculptural beadforms, while the Andean turquoise-blue stone beads (Moche type) add vivid color contrast. In pre-Columbian belief, both gold and blue-green stone carried powerful associations with the sun, water, and life-giving regenerative force. The ancient elements have been restrung for wearability with a modern closure.

A striking, museum-quality ensemble suitable for display or wear.

Length: 20 in.  Condition: Ancient elements very well preserved; restrung and wearable with modern clasp.
