Mexico, Monte Alban Ca. 600 to 900 A.D.

A fine grayware pottery, figural urn, depicting a seated deity with crossed legs and hands resting on knees. Beautifully rendered trance-like facial features, lips parted bearing his front teeth. Wearing a poncho with geometric borders, and a large beaded necklace, ear spools, incised decorated headdress with lappet and tunic with tassels. Integral cylindrical urn on back. 
Size: 7-5/8”H. x 6”W. + black base
Condition: Some remaining red-pink pigmented surfaces with strong root marks and mineral deposits. 
Intact, excellent condition. A beautiful example.
Provenance:    Private Southwest collection. Ex. Bermudez collection, acquired over 50 years ago.
