Late Period - Ptolemaic Period, 26th Dyn–Ptolemaic, ca. 664–30 BC

Solid-cast copper-alloy figure of the enthroned goddess Isis seated on a backless throne, her feet resting on a rectangular integral plinth, wearing a long close-fitting sheath dress and a striated tripartite wig, crowned with the Hathoric headdress of cow horns framing a solar disk and uraeus at the front. She cradles the infant Horus (Harpokrates) across her lap, her right hand supporting him beneath his body while her left hand reaches toward her breast in the nursing gesture; the child wears the side-lock of youth. The back of the wig is lightly engraved.  Appearing as early in the archaeological record as the Ptolemaic period (305-30 BCE), this customary depiction of the goddess and her son represents a powerful symbol of rebirth. The sculpture embodies the fusion of pharaonic Egypt with the aesthetic style of the Ptolemaic period.
