A scarab amulet carved in the naturalistic form of a dung beetle, with incised lines defining the head, striated wing cases, and body; in a creamy white hard fine grain stone.
Scarabs were among the most common Egyptian amulets and symbolized rebirth, regeneration, and protection. Their association with the beetle kheperer connected the insect with the concept of becoming and the daily renewal of the sun. Scarabs were worn as jewelry, placed with the deceased, and used as protective objects.
