South Italy Ca 4th Century BC  

from the White Stripe Group; a two part covered vessel on raised foot and with knob handle; decorated with two heads of Ladies of Fashion, much added white and yellow pigment remaining, both wearing a radiate stephane and kekryphalos, with palmettes between and rays on the top-knop, with a wave pattern around the lid rim and rays around the base.

Size 5-8/8 in H. x 8 inches wide handle to handle. Good encrustation to surface.

Provenance: Collection of pianist Professor Detlef Kraus (1919-2008), acquired in the 1960s to the early 1970s.
