Magna Graecia, South Italy, ca. 340 – 320 BCE

A fine and intact Apulian red-figure pottery skyphos featuring a deep, tapering body resting on a disc foot, flanked by twin horizontal loop handles at the rim. Both side A and side B are decorated in mirror fashion with the profile head of a female (Lady of Fashion) facing left. She wears an elaborate, patterned sakkos (headdress), radiant stephane, beaded necklace, and drop earrings highlighted in added white slip. Large fan palmettes with scrolling tendrils flank each handle, with a wave-pattern band encircling the rim directly beneath the lip.

Dimensions: 3 7/8 in (9.8 cm) Height x 6 in (15.2 cm) Width across handles.

Condition: Intact condition with strong black glaze gloss, distinct added white pigment preserved, and minor surface wear consistent with age.

Provenance: Formerly in a US collection.
