ca. 2nd Century BC–2nd Century AD

Small solid-cast bronze figure of an actor from ancient comedy, striding forward. He wears the mask of a stock comic character, almost certainly a slave, with a wide, trumpet-shaped open mouth, snub nose, heavy furrowed brows and a wreath of curls or leaves around the head. He is dressed in the actor’s costume of a short belted tunic over padding at the belly and buttocks, with a cloak drawn over the left shoulder and wrapped around the left arm, which is held across the chest. The right forearm extends forward, the hand lost. Close-fitting leggings and pointed shoes. Dark brown and reddish patina with patches of green corrosion.
