Central Coast Peru, ca. 1000 – 1400 CE

An outstanding and complete ceramic double-chambered whistling vessel formed by two conjoined drum-shaped chambers resting on flaring pedestal bases. One chamber supports a tall, slender, tapering spout, while the opposite chamber is surmounted by a standing anthropomorphic figure. The figure stands in relief with hands positioned on hips, wearing a tall horned or crested headpiece, a high textured collar, and a belted tunic. A functional whistle is integrated into the arching strap handle and figure base. A strap handle connects the central spout to the standing figure. The vessel is decorated in a rich cream and dark brown slip, featuring geometric panels filled with vertical zigzags, wavy lines, and eye or pendant motifs along both sides of the chambers.

Dimensions: 9 ¾ inches (24.8 cm) in height.

Condition: Excellent, intact condition with minor surface wear, vibrant slip pigments, and light mineral encrustations consistent with age.
