Central Coast, Peru, Late Intermediate Period, ca. A.D. 1000–1470

A border or panel fragment, possibly from a mantle, tunic hem, or headcloth woven in a slit/interlocked tapestry in camelid (alpaca) wool, outlined in black stem-stitch embroidery with two large frontal deity heads with rayed/crescent headdresses and tongue- or hand-like emanations, alternating with smaller standing cuchimilco-type anthropomorphs on the side.

Size 13 in L. x 3-1/2 in W in two fragments sewn to a black plain backing,  some wear and damages.

Provenance: Formerly in the collection of A. K. H., Krefeld, Germany acquired between 1980 and 2007.
