North Coast Peru, early circa 1200 - 500 B.C.  Buff pottery flared rim beaker type vessel incised with a continuous band of four profile heads of feline‑fanged deities, typical of early Chavín religious iconography.

In Chavín visual language, those profile beings with elongated snouts, curled appendages and prominent teeth are exactly the “fanged deities” that stand at the core of the cultures religious iconography. They merge feline, serpent and sometimes avian traits.  A nicely decorated example.

Size: 4-1/4"H. x 5-3/4"D.

Provenance: Ex. Jack Bregman collection, NYC. Acquired prior to 1969 while in the Peace Corps. By descent to current owner. Collection # 049.  Rare example.
