Late Ming dynasty, 16th to 17th century AD

A crowned and bejeweled Guanyin bodhisattva seated in dhyanasana with the right hand raised in vitarka mudra (teaching gesture) and the left resting in the lap. The elaborate openwork tiara containing a small seated Amitabha Buddha, the pendulous earlobes with floral earrings, beaded necklace with central jeweled clasp, and softly cast robes with incised scrollwork are all hallmarks of  Chinese bronze casting. 

The serene, slightly smiling face with downcast eyes, broad forehead, and gilt facial highlights is consistent with late Ming Buddhist sculpture, where only traces of the original gilding typically survive on the face and recessed areas. The high foliate crown with a central niche enclosing a small Amitabha identifies the figure as Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. The hollow-cast construction shows a rough, unfinished interior with a flanged rim and heavy oxidation/malachite-green patination.
