Late to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664–30 BCE

Depicting an alert, seated cat representing the goddess Bastet, naturalistically modeled with upright ears, forward gaze, and straight front limbs resting upon a small horizontal plinth, while its tail loops upward in a circular arch to rejoin the upper back. Beneath the base extends a long, tapered cast-bronze tang intended for insertion into a secondary medium, indicating that the piece functioned as a structural or decorative terminal.

Such fittings commonly capped ceremonial staffs, processional standards, or musical sistra, or were pegged directly into wooden votive objects such as feline sarcophagi and sacred shrine boxes. The piece displays a rich, naturally aged dark brown patina with traces of green copper carbonate encrustations across the surface
