Late Period to Ptolemaic Period (ca. 664–30 BCE)

A solid-cast copper-alloy votive statuette depicting Osiris, the Lord of the Underworld and god of resurrection. The deity is rendered in classic mummiform shroud, standing erect with feet together upon an integral basal plinth from which a substantial casting/mounting tang extends beneath.

Osiris holds his primary divine insignia close against his chest: the crook and the flail (nekhakha, symbol of divine authority). He wears the tall Atef crown, comprising the central White Crown of Upper Egypt (hedjet) flanked by stylized ostrich plumes (now missing) surmounted by an uraeus at the brow and adorned with a long, plaited divine false beard tucked neatly under the chin. The facial features display prominent almond eyes, a straight nose, and calm countenance characteristic of Late Dynastic devotional bronzes.

Dimensions: 5-1/4 inches (13.3 cm) figure height; 6-1/4 inches (15.9 cm) including integral mounting tang; 8 inches (20.3 cm) total height on dark hardwood trapezoidal block base.

Provenance: Property from an English gentleman
