XXXth Dynasty, cairca 300 BC.

Carved deep brown hard stone heart scarab, in the form of the dung beetle with incised details, inscribed with several lines of very worn hiero, a spell from the Book of the Dead, and a later ancient double line inscription on the lower portion but also ancient.

Size: 2-1/2”L. x 1-3/4”W. Some ancient surface losses on the top right wing, scattered minor ancient lower edge flakes, otherwise intact.
Provenance: Private Brooklyn collection.

Ex. William D. Ashby, California, acquired from Joel Malter sale and in a 1978 auction catalog.
