Late Middle Kingdom to the Second Intermediate Period (Dynasty 13–15 / Hyksos Period, circa 1750–1550 BCE).
In scarab typology, the inscribed geometric scroll patterns combined with emblematic hieroglyphic symbols (Tufnell Design Class 3B and Class 7), are signs selected for their protective, regenerative, and amuletic power rather than for literal reading. Rendered is a stylized papyrus columns (wadj) or lotus blooms flanking an architectural column or djed-like pillar of endurance, crowned at the upper perimeter by an arched solar or celestial canopy. In Egyptian symbolic language, the papyrus stalk and lotus signify flourishing vitality, youth, and perpetual renewal, while the vertical pillar denotes stability and lasting endurance. Flanking this central column on both sides are pairs of deeply incised, inward-curling hooked S-scrolls and spirals. These interlocking coil motifs served as an apotropaic protective barrier representing continuity, circular renewal, and the unending cyclical nature of life (djed-wadj / enduring flourishing.
