Late Period,  Circa 712 to 300 BC.

Carved with a human head and avian body, once fixed to a coffin as the visible form of the deceased’s soul. Carved with remnants of a finely modeled human face framed by a  tripartite wig with surviving blue‑green pigment, and a projecting tenon below for insertion into the original funerary support. 
In Egyptian religion,  the Ba was the mobile personality of the dead, able to leave the tomb and return, and wooden Ba-bird figures like this were placed on coffins in the Late and Ptolemaic Periods to ensure that eternal coming and going

Size: 5-1/4 inches H. + custom base   Normal stable age cracks. Condition: Missing right leg and sections of face, wings. Surface wear.
