Central Coast Peru, ca. 700 – 1100 CE

A woven camelid fiber tapestry band featuring four alternating square panels displaying highly stylized anthropomorphic figures or faces, set against deep red ground fields. Each figure is rendered with characteristic Wari geometric abstraction, featuring bold blue, yellow, and black elements, outlined by stepped fret borders along the top and bottom edges. Mounted in a gilt wood frame with a linen mat.

Dimensions: 2.5 x 14 inches (6.4 x 35.6 cm) textile panel size.

Condition: Fragmentary as is typical for ancient textiles, showing wear, thread loss, and fiber fraying consistent with age, mounted in a frame and mat for display.

Provenance: Estate of Rael Gleitsman. MFA Cermaics RISD, Fall River MA  02720, Acquired 1980s. Typed label preserved on the reverse reading: "38. HUARI, 700-1100 AD. Four stylized human figures. Red, blue, black. 2.5 x 14 in."
