Western India, probably Gujarat or Rajasthan, circa 15th to17th century AD.

Bronze Jain altar shrine depicting a seated nude Jina (Tirthankara) in padmasana under a tiered parasol within an elaborate openwork backplate (torana).

The central figure is framed by standing attendant figures and further miniature Jinas and donors arranged in architectural registers, all above a lion‑throne–like seat with low front balustrade and arched gateway.

Cast by the lost‑wax process in a copper‑alloy bronze with warm brown patina and areas of green encrustation, the image retains inset dark cabochons and a reddish stone at the chest, with a long dedicatory inscription on the back in Devanagari or related western Indian scripts.

Openwork plinth, vaulted niche, and drilled halo give the piece strong depth and shadow when lit, while ritual wear, minor oxidation, and small casting irregularities are consistent with age and devotional handling; no visible modern breaks or repairs.

Size 5-1/4 in. (13.3 cm) Height.
Ex NY Architect  Alfred De Vido Collection.
