Western Iran, Iron Age III, ca. 800–600 BC
Hollow cast bronze tube, open at both ends: an elongated chamber tapering to a ribbed, flaring foot, a narrow cylindrical neck with a triple-ribbed collar, and a flat, projecting disc rim. Green patina with mineral encrustation overall. Probably the support for a standard finial, the type with confronted animals or a “Master of Animals” figure. The finial’s pin passed down through the neck, and the base probably fitted over a staff or stood on its own. How these standards were used is not documented, though most were probably shrine or grave offerings.

Size: 7 inches (17.8 cm) H. x 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) diameter.
