Early to Late Classic Period, circa AD 450 – 750,

modeled with the expressive mask of the solar deity Kinich Ahau (God G) in bold relief. Low-fired from coarse orange-brown earthenware with earthen burial encrustations and subtle traces of ancestral ash deposits, the cylinder features a prominent face defined by classic squarish squinting eyes, a curling zoomorphic nasal projection, filed teeth with drooping corner fangs, and circular ear ornaments set against segmented lateral flanges. As lord of the daytime sky and patron of royal lineage, Kinich Ahau presided over elite solar rituals, with such cache containers serving as subterranean or temple dedications to house sacred offerings and channel divine rebirth.
Cache vessels held offerings such as jade, shell, and incense and were buried in dedication rituals; this example was probably once lidded.

Excellent condition: Old crack from the rim on the reverse; archaeological deposits, heaviest at the base.
